New Stuff!

Caught the game developer choice awards last night, thank you facebook for reminding me. Journey took home some many awards, top props to the team and all of the other phenomenal nominee's. Last year was pretty fantastic for games and 2013 is somehow shaping up to be even better with the recent release of Bioshock Infinite (its soooo good).

And while I would really like to be playing that right now, I am pretty excited to be working on Pathogen at the moment because I just added a new game mode, Capture Zone. These zones, painted onto the gameboard in the map editor, will help to generate some fierce competition in the early moments of the game. Here is the way they work, after 10 rounds the zones become claimed. Any cells within the boundaries of the zone are instantly promoted to a t4 solid cell of that player. If there happens to be an empty space it becomes a grey t4 cell piece. Should a player take over the whole zone before the 10 turns are up, that zone will be claimed early.

I got the code in yesterday for dynamically distinguishing zones from one another, which means there can be any number of zones painted on the game board. Better yet player will be able to create their own control zone maps because its so easy to make them.

Today I want to get it working, which hopefully wont be too difficult.
